Alternate Approver Role

The Alternate Approver role is assigned to individuals with the authority to review activities and recommend approval. This role serves as a backup for the primary approver in cases such as vacations, out-of-office periods, or other circumstances requiring delegation. When reviewing a prior approval form or annual certification report, a reviewer may assign an Alternate Approver on the form. Once assigned, the form will be routed to the alternate approver's queue instead of the primary department/unit approver's queue.

The following is an overview of Alternate Approver responsibilities:

  • Prior Approval Forms - Review prior approval forms to ensure accuracy and provide a recommendation for approval. The terminal approver makes the final decision, including the duration of approval. Approvers cannot approve their own forms; UC OATS will automatically route an approver's forms to the next step in the workflow.
  • Annual Certification Reports - Review annual certification reports to ensure all known activities are accurately included and properly documented.
