Request to Retain Earnings

Under APM-671, faculty participating in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan (HSCP) may retain income from outside professional activities up to an approved earnings threshold, as determined by their faculty role and program guidelines. Any income that exceeds this threshold must be deposited into the HSCP Plan, in accordance with policy requirements.

However, faculty at participating campuses who have an approved Request to Exceed Threshold (TH) form may be eligible to retain income above the threshold by submitting a Request to Retain Earnings form. This article provides step-by-step instructions for submitting this request, if available at your campus.

To submit a Request to Retain Earnings:

1. Locate and click on the approved Request to Exceed Threshold (TH) form. 
   
2. Scroll to the bottom of the form and select the Request to Retain Earnings button to activate the form. 
   
3. The Retain Earnings Request form for the activity will open.
   • Enter the amount of earnings you are requesting to obtain from that activity.
   • Enter the justification for retention of the earnings.
     
4. Click Submit Retain Earnings to complete the request.
5. Your request will process through the approval workflow.
