Faculty In-Kind Contributions

This article explains how UC OATS collects information related to In-Kind Contributions for certain Category I activities.

Note:
  • Reporting an in-kind contribution in UC OATS does not fulfill all faculty reporting requirements. Faculty should consult their campus administration to determine whether additional disclosures are required.
  • In-Kind Contribution questions were added to UC OATS on March 1, 2024, so responses will only appear for forms submitted on or after that date.

Under APM-025 and APM-671, in-kind contributions are non-cash resources provided by an outside entity that have financial value.

Examples include:

  • Office or laboratory space
  • Equipment or supplies
  • Research materials
  • Students or staff supported by the outside organization
  • Any other resources provided to support the faculty member’s work

These are considered compensation even if the faculty member does not receive money directly.
