Accessibility Statement for UC Outside Activity Tracking System

The University of California is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying relevant accessibility standards to the University of California Outside Activity Tracking System (UC OATS).

This accessibility statement describes the measures taken to support accessibility, the current level of conformance with accessibility standards, known limitations, and how users can request assistance or report accessibility issues. For the UC systemwide accessibility policy, see the University of California Electronic Accessibility page

Measures to support accessibility

The University of California takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of the UC OATS:

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
  • Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.
  • Employ accessibility quality assurance practices during design and development.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. UC OATS is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

The UC OATS is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Google Chrome with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA) on Windows
  • Mozilla Firefox with screen readers (NVDA) on Windows
  • Safari with VoiceOver on macOS
  • Safari with VoiceOver on iOS

UC OATS is not compatible with:

  • Web browsers that are no longer supported by their vendors
  • Operating systems that are no longer supported or receive security updates
  • Assistive technologies that are outdated or no longer maintained by their developers

Technical specifications

Accessibility of the UC OATS relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • Modern web browser
  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the UC OATS, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for the UC OATS:

  1. Uploaded documents from users; archived documents: Uploaded documents and attachments may not be fully accessible. These materials have not been assessed for accessibility compliance and may not meet WCAG standards because documents and attachments are uploaded or archived from a variety of sources, and accessibility compliance cannot be guaranteed for all materials. UC OATS is working to ensure that system-generated content meets accessibility standards and continues to evaluate accessibility improvements where feasible. If you encounter an accessibility issue with an uploaded or archived document, please contact the UC OATS support team support@ucoats.org to request an accessible alternative or assistance.
  2. Some dropdown components include a searchable input field that appears visually as a blank space, which may not be clearly identified by screen readers or keyboard users. In addition, certain dropdown lists allow multiple selections, which can introduce accessibility challenges related to focus management, labeling, and assistive technology support.

Assessment approach

The University of California assessed the accessibility of the UC OATS by the following approaches:

Formal complaints

Accessibility-related concerns may be submitted to the UC OATS support team at support@ucoats.org. Issues will be reviewed and escalated through existing University of California accessibility and compliance processes when appropriate.
