Set Custom Thresholds

This article will show you how to create custom time and earnings thresholds in UC OATS. Custom department thresholds cannot exceed the maximum hours allowed by policy.

The default time thresholds in UC OATS are based on UC policy:

• 312 hours (39 days) for the academic-year faculty
• 384 hours (48 days) for the fiscal-year faculty

For faculty governed by APM-671, the default earnings threshold is $40,000 or 40% (scale 0).

To set up custom time/earnings thresholds: 

1. Navigate to the App Admin tab.
2. Confirm you are in the correct fiscal year. Use the arrows to move between fiscal years as needed.
3. Locate the unit to update:
   • (a) Use the Department Hierarchy Tree Structure button, or
   • (b) Click through department/unit links to reach the appropriate level
4. Once the unit is selected, click the Thresholds tab.
5. Click Add Threshold.
6. Complete the form. See the Threshold Data Description below.
7. Click the Submit button.
8. The system schedules the update and applies changes within approximately one hour. Once processed, faculty thresholds are automatically updated.
