What is Conflict of Commitment?

A conflict of commitment occurs when a faculty member’s outside activities interfere with the faculty member’s professional obligations to the University of California. The University of California policy on conflict of commitment and outside activities of faculty members provides guidance for the identification and management of outside professional activities in order to avoid conflicts of commitment while assuring that faculty may engage in a wide array of outside activities without unnecessary limitations.
